Miraculous Iveron Icon comes to the Eastern Shore

We are pleased to announce that the myrrh-streaming Iveron icon of the Theotokos will be coming to Ocean City. The icon will be at St. George Greek Orthodox Church on October 16th. There will be a supplicatory canon, veneration, and an anointing of all present. Members of the Salisbury OCF do plan on being in attendance, so please contact us if you would like to carpool.

end of semester celebration

Christ is risen! Truly he has risen!

Come out and celebrate the paschal season and the end of another school year with some delicious Greek and Middle Eastern food. The club will be meeting at 7pm on Tuesday March 3rd for dinner at the Mediterranean Grill. It’s just right across Route 13. Take the pedestrian tunnel and make a left into the shopping center just beyond Pat’s. We’ll talk about the semester, the upcoming year, and whatever else meets our fancy. Hope to see you there!

‘Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer’ movie

Come out to our meeting at 7pm on March 29th to watch the newly released Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer. The filmmakers travel to a variety of famous monasteries to ask practiced ascetics about this important prayer: St. Anthony’s monastery in the Egyptian desert, St. Catherine’s at Sinai, Mt. Athos, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, etc. This documentary has been much anticipated, so take a break from classes and the weekly routine to visit with us. Unless there is some change due to A/V needs (which would be posted here), we will be meeting in our normal spot: Henson room 109. Again that’s seven on Tuesday March 29th. snow-bound spring break

A few members of the club made the pilgrimage up to St. Tikhon’s monastery and seminary in South Canaan, PA with Christ the Savior OCA parish. Few were expecting to find chapels and tri-bar graves covered in snow and ice! The services were all really beautiful, and the classes were fascinating. Hopefully those from the OCF who were not able to attend will be able to do so at some future junction, should Christ the Savior decide to do another round. Unfortunately, another impending snow storm forced the group to come home a day early, but the pilgrimage was enriching and inspiring nonetheless.

Ecology and the Church

We are very excited to announce our next discussion topic: Orthodoxy and the Environment! Next Tuesday Father John Parsells will lead a talk on this topic, preceded by a short Compline prayer service. What does the Ancient Faith have to say about human interaction with our natural world? Is this message different than that of Protestantism or Roman Catholicism? Please come out to learn more about this important issue and to lend your own thoughts. Bring your valentine’s day sweet-heart!

The meeting will be held on Tuesday February 15th at 7pm.

Would you like a priest to come and bless your dorm room or off-campus apartment? Although we’re moving steadily away from the Feast of the Epiphany, we’re sure that a local priest would be happy to come and bless your living space. Our homes are called to be little parishes, and even a dorm room can become sanctified space! I just wanted to extend my appreciation to everyone who visited our little table at the RSO activities fair last Wednesday. It’s looking like a great semester, so please come out and join us for tomorrow’s business and planning meeting at seven pm in Henson room 109. That might not sound super-exciting, but it’s important because it will basically shape and determine the coming semester: discussion topics, spring-break ideas, planning officer elections, volunteering information, St. Tikhon’s monastery, and more. Come on out and let us know what you’d like to see the OCF doing this semester! Our club will never be anything more than we make it, so let’s make it something really good and worthwhile. New Semester!

Greetings! We hope that everyone had a lovely Nativity season and Christmas break away from textbooks, papers, and exams. The Spring semester will be upon us in a matter of days, and we’re looking forward to a great year with our now official club. We will be involved with the school activities fair on Wednesday January 6th from 11am to 3pm, so please consider coming out (GUC student center). We’ll have a table with literature and schedules, so feel free to visit and say hello! We also have space for volunteers, if any group members are interested.

Our meetings will take place every other Tuesday at 7pm in Henson 109 beginning February first. More info to come!

First Formal Interest Meeting

Greetings to everyone! So far the SU Orthodox Christian Fellowship has enjoyed several “unofficial” campus events, ranging from logistical meetings to documentaries to delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Thursday October 28th, however, will feature our very first official interest meeting. The school requires us to have three of these meetings before it will consider registering the organization as an official student club. Since this meeting is an officially sanctioned event of the school, we can post flyers and advertise as widely as we choose. We’re very excited to be making this step and hope to garner some genuine attendance. Please consider coming out and blessing us with your presence! Hopefully we can get some signs made and spread the word.

The meeting will be at 7pm on Thursday October the 28th. We have the Pocomoke Room reserved on the second floor of the Student Center. This space is basically just above the Cool Beans coffee shop and directly adjacent to the multi-cultural “Spirituality Room”.

Documentary and discussion

Christ is in our midst! We just want to announce that the Salisbury University Orthodox club will be screening a documentary on the history of the early Church (Pentecost through St Constantine the Great) on Friday September 4th at four pm. The location is still TBA, but we will probably be showing it in a Holloway Hall conference room. Just keep checking here for updates. At only thirty minutes, it’s going to be a short film, so please come out if you have the opportunity. Feel free to bring friends- Salisbury students or otherwise.
